A little explanation...
I just happened to come across this Albert Einstein quote explaining how radio works, and thought that perhaps if he had been teaching my Chemistry class in high school I might be a scientist today and not a lawyer. Or maybe not.
"You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat."
-- Albert Einstein.
It's Funny Because It's True
I have no reason to make this my thought of the week other than the fact that I laughed out loud when I read it... and because Mark Twain was quite right when he noted:
"The trouble aint that there is too many fools... but that the lightning ain't distributed right."
If it feels like there's too much to do...
...it may occasionally be a good thing. As Henry David Thoreau said, "Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it."
Here's to the Nationals
After a move from Montral to DC (and a few games), the Washington Nationals currently hold first place in the NL East. Some of us (particularly Canadians) may find themselves pondering why the team didn't play that way in Montreal. Lack of fan support, maybe? Fair-weather fans should all pay heed to the words of Walt Whitman:
"Baseball will take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism. Tend to relieve us from being a nervous, dyspeptic set. Repair these losses, and be a blessing to us."
'Tis the Season....
Yes it is that time... the mad scramble for the various bits of paper we've collected over the last 12 months which hopefully when we've got them all together will reduce the amount we have to pay to Her Majesty via CCRA (or for our American friends, the IRS) at the end of the month.
If it all feels a little overwhelming, try to keep the following quote in mind:
"The hardest thing in the world to understand is the Income Tax."
-- Albert Einstein.
The longer I do this...
the more I realize the truth of the following quote from Oscar Wilde: "I am not young enough to know everything".
